Christine Black made up for her final disappointment of two years ago when she lifted the 60+ women’s doubles title with Dutch partner Marjan Ridder at the BWF World Senior Championships in Helsingborg this afternoon.
The pair, who were runners-up in the 55+ in 2013 when top seeds, lived up to their No.1 seeding this week when they defeated Marguerite Butt and Ann Hurst 21-16 21-8. It meant they took the title without dropping a game.
But Black, who had reached the women’s singles final without dropping a game, missed out on a golden double when the second seed was outplayed 21-15 21-19 by England’s Christine Crossley.
Even so, Black, the only woman in the Scotland squad, comes home with two more medals to add to her already glittering array of senior successes. But Ridder takes home two golds after she and husband Rob won the mixed, beating England’s Hurst and Graham Holt 21-13 21-10.
